SUMMARY:A resilient approach to navigating the winter blues
DESCRIPTION:Doctoral College Seminar Series \nProf Stephen Palmer  \n20th January 2026 1-2pm  \nThe ‘Winter Blues’ is a popular term used by the public although it is not a medical condition. This presentation will consider the possible reasons for a mild\, and temporary dip in mood\, energy\, and motivation that can happen during the winter months. It often occurs after the holiday season on our return to work and/or studying. Then the presentation will focus on practical\, coping strategies including easy to use thinking skills to challenge any ‘Winter Blues Thinking’. \nIn the UK\, about 3% of people have significant winter depression which is known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Therefore\, knowing when to seek professional help will also be highlighted in this lecture.
