Welsh Language Standards and PGR Research

Conducting research in Wales or with Welsh communities and unsure how the Welsh Language Standards apply to you? Read on to find out more.

As PGR students, the UWTSD Welsh Language Standards only apply if the research project influences the University’s policy decision, i.e. meaning any decision made by the University about the exercise of its functions or about the conduct of its business or other undertaking. Therefore, apart from the above condition, students are not required to apply the Welsh Language Standards in their research projects.

However, in relation to good practice, a student undertaking their research project may wish to consider:

(a) If the subject matter of the research project suggests that it should be published in Welsh, or
(b) If the anticipated audience and their expectations suggest that the research project should be conducted in Welsh.
